Are you the one always behind the camera? You know who you are! You are the cherished "memory keeper" of the family. The designated person chosen to take photos at family events and such. Well, it's time that you got yourself in front of the camera for a fun photo shoot day! Today I'm sharing some tips on choosing the right photographer. Not just for yourself, but for your family as well.
I recently had the chance to work with Nancy Wyatt Photography. What a joy she is to work with. If you are in the local Houston area be sure to contact her to schedule a shoot soon. I had such a great experience with Nancy that I wanted to share what I've learned after working with a professional.
DO YOUR RESEARCH
Not all photographers are alike. Some only photograph families, high school seniors, weddings, etc. Others only work with babies or do lifestyle photography. Choose one with a website so that you can research a little bit more.
Nancy's website is very professional and easy to navigate. Be sure to check it out - http://nancywyattphotography.com/
Your photographer's site should tell you something about who they are, their specialty, and include a portfolio of their work. Click on each tab of their site to get a full "picture" of what they can offer you.
SCHEDULE A CONSULTATION
It is so important to talk to your photographer before you sign a contract or schedule a session. Most are happy to talk with you and answer any questions about their work. Now is the time to discuss such things as choice of location(s), pricing, availability of edits/proofs, and such.
Good professional photographers will also have a contract for you to sign. This benefits both of you. Go over the terms so that both of you are in agreement before proceeding with the session.
WEAR THE RIGHT CLOTHING
Nancy was so sweet to remind me to wear the right clothing during my session. The Houston mural walls were my chosen location. As you can see they are vibrant and full of color. It was best to wear solid colors so that I would not clash with them. Discuss wardrobe changes up front as well. Make sure that your photographer offers these in your session package.
AFTER YOUR PHOTO SESSION
Once the shoot is finished you should receive a proof gallery from your photographer. Nancy's system is streamlined and organized very well. She sent me a link to view my gallery, Once in my gallery, I clicked on the shots that I liked. My choices were automatically sent to her for editing. After editing, I received notification from her that my finished photos were now available for download and printing. I was ALL SMILES after seeing the finished product. Nancy did some great editing and smoothed out wrinkles and bulges in my clothes too! Now that's customer service! I appreciate it that she took the time to make me look fabulous!
Now that you are happy with your photos it's time to get them printed. Most photographers will refer you to good print companies. You may have to do a bit of research to find a good one. Just make sure you send the full photo file when ordering. If you re-size them down the quality may not be as good as the original sized photo. I am personally using MPix. The I really like the quality of their prints. And each of their photos is reviewed by a color technician, guaranteeing that you receive top-quality prints every time.
And here are my FAVE SHOTS of my photo session.
One last one! Here's a shot of Nancy and I. She was so great to work with!
